Coffee isn’t usually the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Japan. But the quickly growing coffee culture is putting Japan on the map, not just for good coffee but for the crazy cool cafes and style that come with it.
Nakameguro is one of the main food hubs of Tokyo. Everywhere you look there’s a funky bar, cafe or restaurant. Along Meguro River, which is just across the street from Nakameguro Station and is known as the place to go see the cherry blossoms in spring, there are some of the coolest little shops you’ll ever find.
One new discovery, which has quickly become a favourite, is the Sidewalk Stand Coffee shop. It’s located on the corner of the block facing the river, and is a tiny shop with two floors. On the ground floor you grab your coffee and can sit on the limited stools inside or outside, or you can climb to the second floor and enjoy your drink in a cozy space with big windows.
The coffee is really good, with little bite sized nibbles, beer and sandwiches to choose from as well. They have a couple really interesting choices on the menu- last time I was there with a friend and we both got the “bitter orange americano” which was candied orange with a bit of syrup added to an iced Americano. It was delicious, and sweet.
Open everyday from 9 am to 9 pm
